Established in 1965, Sujatha Vidyalaya is a leading Government Approved private girls’ school catering to both Edexcel and the Local GCE Curriculum. We foster practical skills at an early age to create a niche learning experience with a student to faculty ratio of 10:1.

Story behind the name “Sujatha”

When Mr. Linton Kuruppu named the school for girls he founded in 1965 as Sujatha, he could not have chosen a better name, had he searched all the literature ever written about the exemplary women in the Buddhist canon.

Welcome to Sujatha Vidyalaya, Nugegoda. We are thrilled to have you on board, and hope that you will find your second home at Sujatha Vidyalaya, a place to grow, and develop your educational skill set and expand your professional career. School Legacy – Timeline

1965 June 1st

First Day of Sujatha Vidyalaya at No.17 Alfred Place, Colombo 03

1966 January

School moved to a more spacious location at No. 05, Queen’s Road, Colombo 03

1967

A hostel allocated for 100 students opened at No. 110, Reid Avenue, Colombo 03

1968

To make room for the increasing number of students, Primary School moved to No. 03, Havelock Road, Colombo 05

1970

Sujatha Vidyalaya was completed as fully fledged school with Classes from Grade 01 to G. C. E, Advanced Level in Arts, Science, and Commerce

1983

Mr. Linton Kuruppu purchases a land in Nugegoda

1986

Primary School moved to new three story budling in Nugegoda, Upper School moved to Jaya Road, Bambalapitiya

1990

Upper School moved to Nugegoda, Advanced level Section and Science Labs moved to Gangodawila

1992

Mr. Linton Kuruppu passed away due to illness

1996

Mr. Lakshman Kuruppu, Son of Late Mr. Linton Kuruppu takes over from his father as the new Managing Director

1997

Fostering a new generation of young learners, Sujatha Vidyalaya opens its doors to Sujatha Preschool, a center for holistic early childhood education

2000

The Millennium building was built creating a new Middle School at Sujatha Vidyalaya

2005

Highlands college was acquired as a brother school to Sujatha Vidyalaya

2007

New Sujatha Vidyalaya Primary Building was constructed, as one of the first ever modern school building in Sri Lanka with a Center aisle and two stairways on their side.

2010

Starting of the Japanese Exchange program at Sujatha Vidyalaya

2015

Sujatha Vidyalaya, Nugegoda celebrates 50 years of educational excellence

2019

Sujatha Vidyalaya Innovation Tower new upper school building with 3 story underground carpark

2020

COVID revival awarded best school in Colombo for online education

2025

Sujatha Vidyalaya Celebrates 60 years in Education
